West Melton Renovation

When Lisa and her partner purchased their West Melton property fifteen years ago, it looked literally like a little Lego house popped in the middle of a paddock due to the box shape and hardly any  garden. Fifteen years on and you would not believe the transformation.

The house was completely renovated in a three stage process which was very hands-on for both of them. The original house was a concrete block lower half with a summerhill stone upper half. The kitchen and living were situated upstairs with a solid concrete floor separating the two levels. It was this solid concrete slab which enabled the Hurley’s to completely gut the house because the whole building was so solid and secure.

The first stage was a 100 square metre addition on the side of the house which gave them a new entrance, study, kitchen, pantry with a full scullery and open dining area. This addition helped to anchor the house to the section and balanced the proportions of the house to the garden. The whole exterior was painted in earthy tones to tie the house to the environment.

Stage two saw the complete upstairs area gutted with the kitchen, living and two bedrooms transformed into four bedrooms, one bathroom and one ensuite. The ensuite is the real star of the master suite, with its spacious area, light and beautiful fittings and fixtures.

The final part of the renovation linked the old areas to the new additions and included the back door area, the hall, downstairs bathroom and the laundry. The whole process took almost three years and included substantial landscaping to really set the property off.

The photos really speak for themselves, with the rooms beautifully appointed and eminently liveable.
